Travellers, traders and makers for centuries.
For hundreds of years the Banjara moved across India with their caravans, carrying salt, grain and goods from one region to the next. Wherever they went, they carried their own culture with them: their language, their songs and their art.
Banjara women are known for their bold, colourful handwork, a skill passed from mother to daughter. Every pattern holds meaning, and no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
Today many Banjara families live in settlements called tandas, mostly across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The skill is still there. What has been missing is a fair way to reach buyers.
To give every Banjara artisan a shop of their own, a fair price for their work, and buyers across India who value what they make.
